Improvements & Maintenance
Maintenance and Repairs The roof was replaced in 2011 including gutters and downspouts. Leak in the northeast corner of the foundation was repaired and inside the crack above the northeast window spackled and painted. Currently we are repairing a crack in the front façade of the chapel.
Construction of the Annex – In January 2009 we hired local architect Gary Wolfe to prepare design concepts and drawings to construct a small annex building to serve as a changing area and accessible bathroom. After a series of design changes and project revisions a contractor was selected in 2011. The project was constructed by Turner Associates during 2012 and opened in November.

Ownership of the Chapel – The Priestley Chapel Associates is now the owners of the Chapel. Ownership was transferred from the Unitarian Universalist Association in summer 2012. UUA paid all legal costs for this transfer. Also transferred were the funds created by UUA to help maintain the chapel. These funds came from legacies for chapel care left by Hannah Priestley Haskett, Annie and Jean Priestley and Frances Forsyth, daughters of Joseph Rayner Priestley, grandson of Joseph Priestley. Warren Gutelius a local publisher and historian who served as caretaker for the chapel also left a bequest in his will for chapel preservation.
